Altair searched high and low, roamed great distances, even dared set foot in the regions of the other elements. For what? A mare she had known for less than a day? It all seemed silly to her. But all the same, Altair felt a strange duty that she must try first. The main reason was that Book was a member of the herd, and they could not just leave her. No. They could not. And Altair refused to. It was her own determination as well as Sept's discomfort that spurred her on. Her tired eyes scanned the area one last time and her weary limbs carried her a little more before giving up came into mind. She watched as the last light of the sun started to fade and die until the next day. She shivered, it was awfully cold during winter. But she had developed a somewhat thick winter coat that the cold could not penetrate as easily. Her vision blurred, her eyes started to close. Altair decided she would spend the night here, and in the morning return to Astarte. Finding a comfortable position beneath one of the taller trees, Altair finally slipped into a deep, blissfull sleep.

Altair woke late in the morning, terribly cold and surrounded in white. White sky, white ground, white trees. She was stiff and sore from her previous travels and the cold. Now to head home, to Astarte and her herd. She groaned. Astarte was a long way off from here, she would have to skirt around the edges of the other elements to get there. It would take most of the day. Determined, she forced herself into a brisk trot, crunching through the soft snow. She had gotten lazy. Altair would still be on the watch for Book, but she knew that chances of finding the other mare were low. It was time she returned to her home, Book or no Book. She turned Southeast, towards the direction of Astarte. A long day it would be.

it's still winter His muscles flexed easily as he traveled across the vast forest, gazing at everything in turn. He had been hiding much too long. Snow fell, covering his blue grey coat with its flakes. This was his element, winter. A brush of wind brought more snow his way, Hydro was enjoying it thoroughly. The Valley had gotten desolate and empty, all except for a determined fire stallion. But fire wasn't exactly what Hydro liked to deal with. The mighty stallion tossed his head, bringing another rush of snowflakes with the motion. His nostrils flared, catching scent of something that didn't seem to belong. Well, two scents. One was old, a mare and a colt. The other, more recent. Another mare, but clearly a different one altogether. Curious as ever, Hydro began to canter, his hooves leaving deep hoofprints in the white. With the steady rocking motion, he felt quite relaxed. He had never been so carefree. The scent of the mare got stronger. His nostrils flared again, taking it in and calculating everything. This mare, he recognized her scent. She seemed to come from Astarte. Ah, he knew where she belonged. A water mare, just what he could deal with. Hydro stopped, sliding on the wet snow but not falling. He looked on, seeing only a bay blur up ahead. That must be her. Though Hydro never felt much worry for these equines who called his land home, he wondered what she was doing out here all alone. Astarte was far from here, and as he got a bit closer, he could almost see the tire in her eyes. He said nothing, approaching as quietly as he could manage. Alas, a twig snapped just as he had gotten closer. Hydro bit his lip in fury, he was supposed to be graceful and quiet. Not clumsy like he had just been. The blue roan looked up at the grey sky, wondering for a while. Perhaps she hadn't noticed him yet. Snow was still falling, though the downfall had slackened in the time span. After a few moments, Hydro decided it was up. She had probably seen him. Dear lady, Hydro said in the sweetest voice he could muster, placing his gaze on her, head tilted to make him look like a young foal. Are you lost? Need any... help? He was an immortal, not a helper. Hydro shook his head defiantly, disagreeing with himself completely. It didn't matter. This mare, an Astarte mare and fellow water equine, needed his assistance. She looked worried about something. A lost mare, a lost foal, something along that sort. Her lead must be worried as well, her being so far from her homeland. It was only right for him to feel that way too.

ooc: Okay. ;D
Altair halted as she spotted a blue roan. Could it be Book? She quickly drew closer to get a better look. No. It was a stallion, and too large for Book, as well as the scent was different. She did not know this one. But he had the look of a great lord, and the air around him almost seemed to shimmer with power. She watched him warily. Deciding it was best to be polite, she bowed her head. Greetings, Lord. I am Altair, humble water mare of Astarte. I am perfectly fine, Lord, only a weary traveler heading home. She kept her words quiet and polite. She was tempted to straight out ask who he was, but something told her to let him introduce himself. Just his physical form spelled p o w e r. She was weak and weary from traveling, and could not protect herself as well. She knew not the magical powers of this one, too. No.. she just wanted to get past this one and speed home. Something about him unnerved her, but she could not pinpoint it. Inside she shivered, but outside she was as calm and relaxed as ever. Her head was level and cool, and as long as it was she would be fine...

ooc: At the start Hydro was going to be a bit more mischievous and tricky, but that is up to you since you took him over. Anyways, the style you make your post looks much better than the normal. I think I might copy you. lol! I think I'll stir some things up now... hehehe By the way, nice post Hydro! Much longer than my itty bitty ones. Bored, Pyro watched from afar to see what his brother was doing. Conversing with a mare. Probably water. Posh. Stupid water. Fire was much better. And a lot more.. entertaining. An idea struck him. Last time Hydro had interfered with his conversation with a fire mare. Maybe he'd do the same. Cackling lightly to him self, he materialized nearby, but still out of sight. Except he would more subtly interfere... at first. He concealed himself within the forest growth so he couldn't be seen. With a small thought he sent a small flame to smolder at Hydro's tail. He grinned with satisfaction. No better entertainment. Soon his brother would notice, though, and put out the flame and his fun. Pyro watched the mare that Hydro was talking to. Seemed a bit nervous. He didn't blame her. Course, he wasn't entirely sure of what it was like to be a mortal suddenly confronted by a god. He always enjoyed seeing the confused, awed, nervous, mix of emotions cross them whenever he revealed himself in public. Pyro was proud to begin with, but being a god really does make one's pride high. Now for the fun to begin...ooc: Couldn't help it. And it's just Pyro's personality to be arrogant, so don't take it personally.

ooc: thanks. ^^; well, i'll figure out something for him. when i did elements before, water horses were proud, curious, and respectful. at most times. but, like i said, i'll figure something out
Hydro blinked, sniffing. Something wasn't right. He looked around, ignoring the flame Pyro had set on his tail. And what would you be doing so far away from Astarte? He murmured accusingly, raising a brow. He tossed his head, finally noticing that something felt hot. He whipped around, to see only a small fire that had set his tail ablaze. Hydro stamped at the ground, eyes large as he began to use water to cancel out the flame. Realizing how stupid that must look, he returned to normal after the fire had died away. Anger welled up in him as he thought of who had done that. It was no normal coincedence. He had a good idea. Pyro. The trickster. So, this was his play? Using fire? Hydro snorted, squinting as he searched the brush for the sign of the chestnut stallion. Saying nothing, he approached a bush, taking a look over his shoulder at Altair. Apologies. He muttered, eyes narrowed. Apparently, someone is around making trouble. At the word someone, Hydro turned back to the brush, poking it once and then sending a small spurt of water that way. He rocked back, waiting. A smirk imprinted itself on his muzzle, as what he expected would happen actually happened. Unless.. Pyro might have suspected that and already fled. Hmph. We'll just see.

Pyro had been expecting the squirt of water, but did not flee. Rather he just sidestepped it with ease. But still could not avoid a little bit of dampness hitting his coat. Posh. He sent another flame to burn at Hydro's tail. It may be Hydro's strongest season, but the surroundings were most to Pyro's advantage. With a snicker he set the surrounding trees afire. He collected a bit of extra heat and flame around himself for the pleasure and to evaporate the water that Hydro had squirted at him. His attention went back to the bay mare that Hydro had been talking with. What should he do with her? Oh yes, he had an idea. One of the flames danced closer to the mare, but did not quite touch her. It just got dangerously close. Pyro truly did not have anything better to do than to light forests on fire and annoy his brother. Sad, for a god. But that was Pyro's life. Trickery, games, deception, and most importantly, fire. It was the way his world spun. And he was not about to go against it. Oh no, he enjoyed his eternal life. He thought of the previous times he had had spats with his brother, but there was an infinite number.

Altair shook with ill-contained laughter when she saw the thin plume of smoke rising from the proud stallion's tail. She was still trying to remain polite, but it was harder than it sounded. She watched as he hastily put it out, only to be replaced by a new one and the trees were on fire. Perfect. There was a possibility of who this one was.. but whoever he was he must be pretty powerful in order to extinguish the fire is his tail so quickly. And the one who put it there, who also set the forest on fire. After a little while she realized he had asked her a question. A mare who joined Astarte left the same day. I am only following my stallion's wishes to search for her. I have seen no trace of this mare. After searching Thanos thoroughly, I have finally decided to return home, with or without the mare. She said, while stepping back from the flame that danced to close for comfort. She needed to get out of here. Fire was not her element. Altair looked at the stallion, and was tempted to run. But that would be no way to prove herself to this lord, and ignored the urge. She sort of danced in place, careful not to let any of the flames get too close. She made the mistake of backing up a bit too far, and a small tendril singed her coat. She didn't know exactly what to do, a little too frantic to call up water in order to put it out, if it was enough to do any good. In a moment she dropped her dignity and rolled, trying to suffocate the flame. She immediately got back to her feet, embarassed that this great lord had seen her in such a condition. On the ground. She smiled nervously, while her eyes looked around for an escape route. Good. There's one. But she was not ready to run yet. Something kept her feet rooted to the ground. Altair didn't like being a coward much, but sometimes it is necessary. She stood there, hovering between bolting and staying... with a deep breath she forced herself to calm down.

Hydro hastily put out the other blazes, eyes still wide. He was not terrified, for it was through all their times that Pyro had done things like this. He finished, shaking himself thoroughly. Hydro blinked, looking around for a while. I'm sorry to hear that. He nodded to Altair, though there seemed to be no sympathy in his voice. Seemed, that's the key word. He paid no mind to what she had done, eyes still darting around. Well. Hydro sighed, shifting his weight. Best you get away now. You'll be safe. With the slightest shadow of a wink, Hydro turned and walked over to a blackened tree trunk, frowning at it. Gaia won't be very happy with you. He muttered slyly to Pyro, before disappearing into thin air.

Altair stood for a moment, stunned. The blue roan had disappeared as quickly as he had appeared. And easily extinguished the flame. It was so quiet, as if nothing had ever happened. The wood on the trees was blackened, and her fur was still singed, but that was the only sign of anything ever happening. She caught the stallion's last words barely. Gaia won't... happy with you. He had said into the bushes. Gaia? The earth goddess? Hydro and Pyro? In another one of their famed spats? Over what If these two really were the gods, was she fortunate or not? Her mind was filled with endless questions. Altair shivered. If these two really were the gods, Hydro may be gone, but Pyro could still be there. And she certainly didn't feel comfortable in the fire god's presence, let alone any god. In the fastest pace she could muster she sped from the Sparse Forest in the direction of Astarte. She had already let Sept down by not finding Book. Altair could not let herself or him down again by dieing. She did not bother to skirt the edges of the other elements, which was pretty risky. Getting home was all that mattered now... she did not care if she seemed cowardly, she knew the difference between caution and fear. But they came close to each other, and was hard to discern which was which. It was all just one big mess to her, and escaping it was what she was doing. But was it escaping or fleeing? It mattered not now.

A lone mare, weary from her night of wander, intruded accidentally on the scene of this conversation. A breeze swirled around her and died for the others in her suprise. For she was, of course, a mare of wind. She halted quickly and then started again as the equines began to vanish to other places. She shook her tiara and banner carefully. She suddenly appeared to be the only one.

Aero spotted a lone mare in passing... and noticed her aversion for the wind. How perfect. The trees stirred as the immortal's winds agitated them, making the branches click against eachother, and the newly unfurled leaves to flutter and rustle. She took her visible shape for the second time in as many hours. Normally she'd go for days without deigning to do such, but lately she'd become increasingly jaded. Perhaps this mare would offer something more for her to do.
In her Arabian form, Aero was quite a few hands smaller than the huge Shire, but if it bothered her at all, she did not show it. She held herself perfectly high, waiting silently to see the new mare's reaction.
