Lazily her reddish body slinked down the mountainous path. A raven sat atop her back, perched and ready to strike. It ruffled its sleek black feathers, cawing out to its mount. Azul craned her neck to grin at the bird, her companion. It was the only sign of life she'd seen after that time with the wolf and bear... It symbolized her death and freedom. Black as death, but with wings to fly to freedom. That's how the young mare pictured it. After Hazard had died, she didn't know what to do. But now, she did know. To cause as much mayhem and bring as much freedom as she could into the Valley. That was her job now. And it started with Alise, Bear Clan lady. Azul grinned, plowing down the trail.
The Bear Clan's lands were the most quiet. Since they were the solitary type, it was spread out. It included her old home, the mountain. Citadelé wasn't exactly a valley, per say. It was just called that by some crazed elders. It would be stupid to call it Citadelé Valley again. Azul settled with calling it be the first part. A valley in a valley. How stupid. The mare giggled at herself, cantering down the rest of the trail down the mountain, finding herself facing the valley now. It was beautiful here. Azul felt herself welling up with emotion. Until she noticed something dark among the scene. Another mare.
Enjoying your new role, I suppose?
Azul's eyes gleamed with a manic pleasure, as if scaring the mare was her life. Being a trouble-maker, that was her task at hand. But, what if the mare knew she was there and was simply waiting for her? The raven shuffled itself on her back, changing position and stretching its long wings. Then it took flight. Azul watched it fly circles around the pair before going west. Puzzled, the young mare watched her companion disappear among the tree tops. She turned back to Alise, smirking. Her white blaze cut her face in half, separating her caring side from her mischeivious side. Funny how that worked... She frowned then, taking in everything of this other mare.
Azul began to compare herself to Alise, her frown deepening as she did so. Alise was so beautiful, sleek, healthy, filled out. Like black velvet. And then her. She was mangy, unkempt, a red dun, and had white speckles and patches everywhere. Her ribs stuck out a little, you could almost count every single one. She was muscular and small, which was odd since her father and grandfather had been so big and tough. Well, her mother had been scrawny too. Azul shook her head impatiently, throwing strands of her tangled mane different places on her neck. She watched Alise, waiting for a reply or some movement. Anything.
[from citadel valley for azul.]
