Do any of you have one of these saddles? In the past 24 hourse I've decided that I love them. For those who may not know, a Wintec is a saddle made from synthetic material rather than leather. They are much more durable, they can't be stained by water, they retain value wonderfully, and they are super easy to clean (you could spray it down with a hose if you really wanted). I don't know if they come in Western, but they are in all English styles: Two Dressage styles, Jumping, and All-Purpose. They fit almost any horse as they have an adjustable gullet ranging from narrow to extra wide.
The best part of it all: A brand-new All-Purpose saddle is $400! Most other good-quality saddles range from $900 to $3,000 or more! The dressage saddles I've seen are made out of a black suede-like material, and trust me, once you're in that, you're not sliding anywhere. It's very secure.
These saddles are awesome, and as long as you aren't showing Grand Prix level, I think it's fine in appearance. They may not look like leather, but they don't look bad either. Who will really care what your saddle is made of as long as you and your horse like it and it works?

Hey, that sounds pretty awesome! I'm Aria, by the way. I'd love to get one for my horse, but a.) he isn't technically mine b.) Lou's probably too fat for one to fit him ;D and c.) Those aren't very expensive but I still couldn't pay for one! So I'll just drool over it

Welcome, Aria. As long as you have a saddle that already works for you and your horse, there's really no need to buy a Wintec. It's just that we bought my pony in the summer and we didn't have a saddle for her. We used our trainer's for a while, but then our trainer wanted to sell it, so we were stuck riding bareback for a month or two. It's fun occassionally, but there comes a time when you really wish you had a saddle after riding without one for a while. I'm just glad that we're finally getting one! The one we're buying is a Wintec All-Purpose, we may or may not buy a dressage saddle later. For now the Wintec will serve well for everything we want to do. Did you know that it is extremely difficult to find a brown dressage saddle? Black looks terrible on my dappled strawberry roan, and we already have a brown bridle. It would look odd riding around with a black saddle and a brown bridle... but I'd do it if it was the only choice. I think black is cheaper for the companies. the leather used for brown saddles has to be perfectly smooth and without blemishes whereas nothing will show up once the black leather has been dyed. It's just a way for them to get away with using low-quality leather.

Wintec saddles are cool. We have a western one, I think, for my fat horsey. My english saddle is a regular old one, though.

my instructer has only Wintec saddle for all her school ponies.... they are like the best around that I know of and my friend and her brother each have one for her horse..
Sadly my horse's back doesn't fit the design of the saddle so he has a Pessoa.... and it was expensive-ish... its oak brown and real pretty..
anywho.. i was wondering... what kind of horses does everyone have??? mines a 9-10 year-old Australian Thoroughbred, bay called Zilco (show name is Gabanza Loco which means "Crazy Little Chick Pea" in Argentina)
