Along time ago an old professor's (Dr. Long) wife passed away. She was diagnosed with cancer and it spread throughout her body. Dr. Long was devistated as anyone would be once losing a loved one. His wife had been an optimistic person, and the one thing in her life she cherished was horseback riding. Her chestnut and white paint mare, Melodie was left behind to Dr. Long after she died. He had spent some time with Melodie but the prof. had always been so busy with work that he had never fully learned how to care for an equine. Seeing as he had money to spare from a lifetime of teaching, Dr. Long hired a stable hand named Rick. Rick was somewhat like Mrs. Long in a way, he had an optimistic point of view for everything and loved horses. He'd grown up on a farm in Virginia and ever since had been around horses. Rick began to teach Dr. Long about the care taking of a horse, he taught the prof. the proper way to ride both english and western. Soon Dr. Long got to thinking, each day he improved on his riding abilities and learned from Rick. He had always wished to follow his wife's dreams of opening a riding school, and the idea swarmed around in his head. Finally he proposed the idea to Rick to see what his friend would think. Rick found his idea crazy, but crazy enough that it'd work. So the two started on their project, Dr. Long handling the paper work and Rick working on finding the right starter horses. Soon enough Marsh Creek Stables was formed, at first it was a small buisness with one or two intriged children that came to ride daily. Then it turned into a private riding school for the grades, 9-12 it offered scholarships to elaborate universities and often competed in national shows. Dr. Long's daughter returned from college one year, she had been studying in being an emergency physician and had finally earned her doctoral degree. Sarah Long had always been involved with horses from her mom, but since she started college she hadn't been able to ride much. Now that she has returned to her father and home, Sarah decided to take up riding again in her free time. Being a doctor occupied most of her time but sometimes she got a chance to ride Misty; Melodie's foal. The three (Rick, Dr. Long, and Sarah) worked as a team to bring and except the excellant horsemen and women of the world into Marsh Creek. One summer, Dr. Long was struck with a sickness, strange as it seems the doctors could not find the exact problem, it was involving his respiratory system and he was restricted from doing vigorous activities. So Sarah took more time off from work to stay and help Rick with the paper-work and other stable activities. The next summer Dr. Long also passed away, leaving Marsh Creek Stables to Sarah and Rick. The two made their growing empire smaller, demolishing one of the stables that included an indoor arena. They excepted only few to the school, only the best. Now Sarah Long and Rick Harring work side by side to keep their perfect little world running. Misty and Melodie are their companions and helpers, both mares are the foundation on which this great school was built...
